Smooth sailing and shiny temples

Sunset from Muslim Villiage Anchorage

This winters vitamin D recharge session took place in Thailand. I had last visited the Phuket area in 2009 and this time it was a refreshing change to enjoy the waters of Pha Nang Bay on the luxurious 45 ft catamaran, Ocelot, for a full 9 days. Ocelot is the home of Sue and Jon Hacking who are family friends from my childhood. (Click here for their website, www.hackingfamily.com, which is a great source of detailed information for fellow cruisers) The two week vacation ended with two full days of sightseeing in Bangkok where we soaked in the cultural sights and the comically insane "backpacker scene" on Khao Sarn Road.

Our itinerary included northern Pha Nang Bay "hongs" (weathered limestone caves) and muslim stilt villiage, Krabi area climbing mecca Tonsai and Railay Beaches, Phi Phi Don/Lei snorkeling, and Racha Noi walks and snorkeling. In Bangkok we visited the Grand Palace, Temple of Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho (reclining buddha), Zoo, Current Palace Complex, rode the commuter ferries and Skytrain, had many massages, and ate fantastic Thai cuisine.
